Spring Starflower (Ipheion uniflorum) is native to Uruguay and other regions in South America. It naturalizes and forms beautiful expanses of color and foliage. Tolerates shade very well and is drought resistant. Blooms very early in spring.
30 bulbs plus some extras. Color is what you see in the photos but can sometimes vary to slightly lighter or darker. Can be planted any time of year soil can be worked but you may not get blooms until the next spring. These flowers are pretty much bulletproof. Update for winter 2014...our temps have gotten as low as 12 degrees F. and these plants have done great with no mulching or any other protection. During this cold snap, the leaves got bitten but a few days later, the blooms still shot up and new leaves are being formed.
PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS: Spring Starflower is a very tough, resilient plant when in the ground, but bare bulbs are delicate and should be planted immediately upon receipt. Plant about 2 inches deep in well-draining soil or sand.
